500th comfort women's rally held
On Wednesday March 13, a group of " comfort women" staged their 500th demonstration in front of the Japanese Embassy started in 1992 on the occasion of Japanese PM. Miyazawa visit, their Wednesday demonstration today marked the 500 round.
There have been many changes over the past eight years. The Japanese government admitted that it had been directly and indirectly involved in the woman drafted for military sexual slavery and a Japan court ruled in favor of Korean victims of the slavery who sought the compensation for damages. And Japanese war criminals were barred from the Korean territory. The U. N human rights subcommittee adopted the Gay Mactugl Report that demands compensation by the Japanese government for comfort women.
Twelve years passed, yet the demands of the women are still the same. - the acknowledgement of its wartime atrocities, investigation , official apology, punishment for the war victims, compensation and explicit record in Japanese history text book.
