How many times you heard about giving up smoking in this year?
Giving up smoking and campaigning anti-smoking had became a recent trend in Korean society and Korean media started to report on prohibition of smoking at the very beginning of this year. As a result, a lot of smokers decided to give up their smoking habit.
However, three months have passed now and the media already started to talk about fiasco of the smokers' decision. It is true that becoming a non-smoker is extremely difficult but people do not realize that giving up smoking needs both medical treatment and determination.
Each person possesses his or her own way of dealing with smoking and experts say that smokers should initiate giving up smoking with an expert's care.

Oriental and Western experts' view towards giving up smoking
The special medical acupuncture is designed to feel nausea after the operation and eventually this leads smokers to stop smoking. The president of the "Youth Herbal Doctors' Association" noted that the special acupuncture really helps smokers to give up smoking because it is carefully operated on each patient.
For example, the operating method does vary according to their physical constitution, the length of the period they have been smoking, in the age, their body condition, the number of cigarettes they smoke per day, and other relevant factors.
Another efficient method might be "Medical herb". It looks like a real cigarette and smokers smoke the herb instead of smoking a cigarette or a cigar. Withdrawal symptoms may appear and to remove the pain, the smokers should take a candy type "Niconone". This has proved to be a good way of giving up smoking in the Oriental medicine.
In the Western medicine field, several methods are recommended. The most appropiate method is "Nicotine Replacement Therapy" and medical products which are released out to the Korean market is "Nicotine Patch".
"I always recommend Nicotine Patch to smokers who want to give up smoking. It is the most effective way of giving up smoking. Compared with Nicotine Gum, Nicotine Nasal Spray and Nicotine Inhaler, it offers high success probability," said Seo Hong-kwan, medical doctor of Inje University Paik-Hospital of Seoul.
Bupropion is another good treatment which does not contain nicotine. The FDA of the U.S. gave consent to this medicine and it is the unique medicine which stimulates neuro-transmitters of brain in order to minimize withdrawal symptoms.
There are other sub-helpers such as "Buspirone"(serotonergic agonist) and "Nortriptyline" but they are not as effective as the "Nicotine Patch".

Following the scientifically proved method of giving up smoking
Once a smoker decided to give up his or her smoking habit, it is essential that the person plans before actually starting the process. Many statistics show that only planning the process pulls up the probability of success and experts strongly recommends seeking treatment from medical specialists.
The first step to giving up smoking should be making and analyzing a chart called "The why test". The test includes the reason for starting the smoking habit, finding any possibilities of changing the motive of smoking, how the person feels during the smoking period, how many cigarettes the person smokes, and when they usually smokes.
After completing "The why test", set the starting date and let your relatives know about your decision.
Some scientists insist that setting the date on a special occasion such as wedding anniversary or birthday would help a lot.
Then remove any things which are related to smoking, such as getting rid of an ash tray, light and even matches. The withdrawal symptoms will start but they can be eliminated by deep respiration, drinking mineral water very slowly, and chewing gums. Usually, the desire of holding a cigarette or a cigar lasts for 3 minutes and this is why even a simple exercise will be helpful.
Later, he or she should get dental scaling because it provides freshness in the mouth and this feeling elaborates the withdrawal symptoms.
In addition, the person may experience gaining several kilograms but this is a temporal reaction, therefore a carefully planned menu is vital and consuming food containing less fat is important.

The importance of getting stages
Not many people realize that smoking is a disease, an addiction to nicotine. Also, not many people know that giving up smoking needs treatment to get a successful result. Of course, his or her determination is essential but only having the determination would not be enough. The medical treatment does vary due to each person's own physical condition and the living environments.
Getting stages provides the best way of giving up smoking by lowering the chance of failure.
Therefore, if you decide to give up smoking, you must consult a medical doctor first, and then follow the doctor's advice.
